Every week I rebrand celebrities with my new weekly newsletter, Brand Fix. These celebrities have reputations that need help, and I swoop in and give strategies designed to reintroduce themselves to the public.
Some past Brand Fixes have been Katherine Heigl, Ben Affleck, and Seann William Scott.
My goal is to demonstrate how powerful branding can be when it comes to changing the way your business is perceived and how your brand can alter the trajectory of your career if executed well.
If there is something you want, branding can help you get it. — Tweet this!
I am not talking about faking things or lying about who you are or what you do; you are just positioning your brand in the direction of the things you want vs. the things you have.
No lying required.
Guess what? You can do this too. If there is something you want, branding is the quickest way for you to get it.
Want to speak at a high-profile event? BRANDING!
Want to command more money for your services? BRANDING!
Known for something now and want to be known fo something else? YOU GUESSED IT……branding.
WHAAAAT.
So how do I go about transforming brand and how can you do the same?
This blog series will teach you how, my friend. Lesson #1: Picking your brand concept.
The first thing I always do is pick an overall brand goal. To do this, I researched the client and based off where the brand is now and how the person is currently perceived, I design a new concept for the brand. For business clients, I also add goals.
What is a brand concept?
Remember, your brand is what people say when they talk about you. Your brand concept is where this begins.
So for example, for Seann William Scott (Stiffler):
An internet-boyfriend for the middle of the country
Katherine Heigl:
Bad-ass feminist icon for millennials
Once we have that statement, I think of actions and strategies that will get the client close to this ideal.
Your homework for this week is to develop a brand concept for your perfect brand. Think/Dream big!

So close your eyes and dream, friends! What do you want for this business of yours?
Some questions to get the juices going:
- How do you wish people saw your business?
- If you were on a roundup of the best _______, what other businesses would be there? Who are your peers?
- What do you want to be? What’s the end-result?
- If someone is interviewing you on a podcast, what do you want your introduction to say?
That’s step 1 of the rebrand process, next week we will talk about how to use brand strategy to help get you there.
